You’ll finish that work for class.

when my mom took care of babies my favorite story is about this toddler named eli who took a while to talk and everyone was concerned about it but one day my dad was like “eli, can you say ‘car’?” and he looks at my dad and goes “yes, i can. why do you ask?”

my ex boyfriend’s first word was “mother” - followed by “i’d like another bottle of milk please.” - kids who don’t talk until they can bust out a whole sentence are the fucking greatest.

my friend’s older brother did not speak until he was 6, and his first words were “wait for me to get dressed please, I am coming as well”

Tbh stop treating cigarette smokers like shit. The intersections of smoking, minority stress, mental illness, and poverty are *undeniable.* Nicotine is an appetite suppressant, a cigarette is cheaper than a meal. Smoking is hella prevalent in people w/ eating disorders. It’s used to self-medicate adhd, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Cigarettes are cheaper than mental health care for the uninsured. It could also be a habit someone undiagnosed picks up. Cigarettes are one of the most socially acceptable ways to self-harm, you won’t get fired for smoking but you could/would get fired if you came to work with visible self-harm scars. Lots of people start smoking *because* it’s bad for you. All oppressed groups are more vulnerable to addiction than the general population (minority stress) and nicotine is a relatively low (immediate) risk outlet for addiction/pleasure seeking behavior.

This means that when you are openly talking shit about smokers, you are probably talking about poc, mentally ill people, queer people, poor people etc. At this point, it’s pretty safe to assume people know cigarettes are terrible for them, they are probably smoking for a reason. I’m not defending smoking, I’m not saying it is not bad for you. I’m saying if you actually want to help people, start addressing WHY people smoke. Protect vulnerable people and fight the systems that make them vulnerable.

I spent three weeks in a mental hospital and what I discovered there I feel like should be put into words.

we are not who you think we are.

the boy with turrets told the funniest jokes

the girl who raked her nails up and down her skin could create the most exquisite drawings

the girl who abused drugs had the wisest soul

the boy with schizophrenia had the biggest heart

the girl who tried to kill herself told the boy with insomnia stories to help lure him to sleep

the boy who wanted to kill himself had the deepest passion for cooking

the girl with slits and scars all over her body dried my tears and told me I was beautiful

the boy with anger issues gave the warmest hugs

the girl with bulimia told everyone every day that they looked beautiful in their bodies

the boy who was a compulsive liar told us that he wanted us all to get better, and that he was for once telling the truth

the girl who almost drank herself to death stood up for anyone that felt they were feeling bullied

the boy with social anxiety made sure nobody sat alone at meals

we are not who you think we are.
